Rise and Shine and Shine and Shine…

My husband Ollie and I were married in the South West Region of WA earlier this year. Dunsborough is one of our favourite places in the world and we try and visit there frequently. Having our wedding in the South West was a dream and we were so pleased to be able to share this beautiful location with all our closest friends and family. After the wedding Ollie and I stayed in Dunsborough for a week or so and I had the opportunity to go out and do a sunrise shoot at Dunsborough beach (which Ollie and Alby kindly accompanied me to). The town of Dunsborough and its coastline sit in a bay that curves inward and therefore the beaches offer an unnatural sight in WA of the sun rising over the ocean. The shots below are some I captured at the beautiful Dunsborough beach just before and after the sun rose to greet us.

The rocks looked eerie in the dark before the sun rose

I love the glow that appears on the rocks to the back right of the photo where the sun is just thinking about appearing.

With a slower shutter speed I was able to shed a bit more light on the rocks and get some glassy looking water. Again I feel as though I am struggling a bit to control that blown out sky in these situations. Something I will continue to work on. I am still happy with the results though!

As the sun started to rise above the horizon it was a pure gold disc sitting on the water for a few minutes and was absolutely breathtaking.

Then after the sun was up it was all gold, all shine, all over the place.

As I made my way back to the car (by this point Ollie and Alby were having a mutual nap) I couldn’t help but snap a few more of the golden sand.

All in all a successful sunrise shoot in the South West. It was a delight to see another side of my favourite spot and it did not disappoint.

Hopefully these photos don’t either!

To tomorrow,

Ellen
